The Client
John Bean Technologies is a leading global technology solutions provider to high-value segments of the food and beverage industry.
The Challenge
At their Blaby base, a need for electric vehicle charging points to be installed had arisen. With the company equipping the team with company electric vehicles, and with many of the team travelling to and from JBT’s other site all the way in Scotland, the need to quickly and efficiently recharge their EVs was crucial.
The Solution
As efficiency and speed were so important to the client, we suggested the Project EV 22kw Dual Type 2 charging socket pedestal and to make things even quicker, the 40kw DC Charger Dual Gun with podium mount. This combination provides rapid charging thanks to their high-power units and can charge up to 4 vehicles at any one time. Both charging points are compatible with the Project EV app and the RFID card scanning facility too, allowing for easy fleet and cost management and restricted charging where required.
Maximum load calculation coupled with half hourly metering data confirmed the incoming supply to the site was suitable, however the existing LV distribution infrastructure had been obsolete for a long period of time and didn’t offer the required spare ways for the project. Because of this a new compact panel board was installed at the mains to redistribute the sites power. Along with a dedicated EV distribution board and Network switch local to the position where the EV supplies exit the building and a full site isolation/re-energise by the district network operator. Thankfully none of this came as a surprise to the client as they were all identified and included within our initial site visit and detailed proposal.
As part of the works, our ground works team were tasked with trenching and making good access to the carpark to supply the podiums and provide solid mounting points for the units. On top of this they also renewed the marking for the entire carpark giving it a fresh new look.
The Result
The team at JBT Technologies now have easy access to top-of-the-range EV charging points, that can charge their EVs whilst they work. Through the investment in electric vehicles and EV charging points, John Bean Technologies will have dramatically reduced their carbon footprint and their savings on fuel will soon start rolling in!
