Enhancing School Safety with a Wireless Lockdown System

The Client

Imperial Avenue Infant School, located in Leicester, is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for its pupils, staff, and visitors.

The Challenge

The school needed a rapid and reliable lockdown system that could be activated from multiple points across the premises. The solution had to be distinct from the existing fire alarm, easy to maintain, and capable of providing both audible and visual alerts to ensure safety during emergencies.

The Solution

We installed a comprehensive wireless lockdown system designed to meet the school’s safety requirements. The system included:

  • A master control unit with sounder strobe and call point in reception.
  • Multiple strategically placed call points around main escape routes.
  • Internal and external sounder strobes for both audible and visual alerts.
  • Long-life batteries with minimal maintenance requirements.
  • An IP Bridge connected to the school’s network, enabling monitoring via software to check device status, battery life, and identify triggered units.

The system could also be enhanced with optional remote controls to trigger alerts from anywhere on site.

The Result

The school now has a dedicated lockdown alert system that can be triggered from various locations, ensuring a rapid response in emergency situations. The distinct sound and flashing strobes clearly communicate a lockdown event, reducing confusion and improving safety protocols.

The Benefits

  • Improved Safety – Immediate, school-wide lockdown alerts improve response times.
  • Clear Communication – Unique alarm sound and visual indicators differentiate from fire alarms.
  • Ease of Use – Simple call point activation and optional remote controls.
  • System Monitoring – Real-time status and battery life checks via reception computer.
  • Low Maintenance – Long-life batteries and straightforward term-based testing schedule.
