5 Ways to Save Energy at Work

The recent spikes in the cost of energy have left many of us scrambling to cut our energy costs at home, but for businesses, the spend on energy is usually on a much larger scale. We have compiled a list of 5 tips you can integrate into your workplace to help easily reduce and manage the amount of energy your business uses each month. So, let’s jump to it!

1) Energy-saving office lighting

We can’t recommend making the switch to LED enough! LEDs can be a big investment to begin with, but over the coming years, the savings can be immense! With LED bulbs using up to 90% less energy than typical bulbs, your bill could also be reduced by up to 90%!

2) Keep that cold air out

To keep that thermostat as low as you can, simple things like sealing gaps around windows, draught-proofing wall cavities and keeping curtains and blinds closed can keep the cold air out and the warm air in.

3) Switch off out of use appliances

Switch off out of use appliances – Don’t rely on standby mode either! Appliances can still use up to 50% of the electricity they use when operating and employees not turning laptops or desktops off each night can cost you an extra £35 a year per desk!

4) Introduce a maintenance schedule

Introduce a maintenance schedule – Well-maintained equipment is more efficient and lasts longer, so having regular checks and ensuring fans and filters are clean can keep appliances from overheating. Rewiring your business network can help make things run much more efficiently too, so if it’s been a while since your network was last updated, it might be something to consider.

5) Get a smart meter

Get a smart meter – If you only take meter readings every now and then, it’s hard to tell when you use the most energy and where you might be wasting it. The solution? Smart meters. This is an energy meter that gives you more control in seeing how much you’re spending on your business’ energy throughout the day and can get you more accurate bills by cutting out the need for manual meter readings.
