Demand for EV charging points across Leicester and Leicestershire surges

EV charging point installed by Blaby Electrical

Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen a sharp rise in demand for electric vehicle charging points from business and homeowners across Leicester. To be exact, we saw a 250% increase in enquiries last year, which bodes well for both trade and the environment as the UK moves towards its goal to reduce emissions by 78% by 2035.

The surge in interest follows the uptake of several grant schemes via the government and Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) to support the wider use of electric and hybrid vehicles across the country.

Whilst the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) has come to an end, there are still grants in place for businesses and landlords which provide funding of up to 75% towards the cost of installing electric vehicle charge points at properties across the UK. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme providing support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charge points, for eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations.

Ben French, Managing Director of Blaby Electrical, has welcomed the influx of enquiries seizing the opportunity to match our charge point installation service with the extra funding on offer. He comments:

“We have a tried and tested system in place which allows our customers to receive an accurate budget cost before we arrange a site visit. This makes the whole process clear and simple, with the least fuss possible to get the charging point installed.

For larger, more complex sites and commercial installs we attend in person from the start, this allows us to understand the site and the users expectations allowing us to tailor our proposal to the customer’s exact requirements.”

EV charging point installed for Michael Smith SwitchGear Ltd

Michael Smith of Switchgear, Leicester’s leading supplier of LV switchgear and control gear systems, is one of the latest businesses to benefit from the charge point scheme and our installation service. Sean Smith, Managing Director, said:

“It felt like a huge undertaking to install an EV charging point at our premises, but with the funding scheme and Blaby Electrical’s excellent service, we’ve been able to sort it quickly and efficiently without disruption.

They worked hard to consider our needs as a business and gave us complete confidence that the installation would ensure full compliance and meet all the latest government regulations.”
